Wood demon is actually supposed to be a comedy, but its serious tones make it quite unbalanced. Chekhov later wrote marvellous Interesting early version of Uncle Vanya. The plays seem very similar at first, especially act 2 is almost exactly the same; however, at the end of act 3, the story takes a completely different twist and act 4 is only vaguely reminiscent of Vanya/5(9).
